Historical Background

About Us

The King’s Commercial College (hereinafter referred to KCC), was established in April 1997 as a co-educational independent institution offering commercial, science, and general subjects at a high school level.

The school is a brainchild of Reverend S. Oppong-Wereko and Ms. P.L. Madikane. It was situated at 14 Eagle Street, Mthatha with a population of 17 students.

Besides the high school programme, the KCC was also following the programmes offered by The South African Institute of Management (SAIM), The Institute of Business Studies (IBS) and The Institute of Pitman Examinations, London. The above programmes (SAIM, IBS, and Pitman Examinations) were discontinued when SAIM strengthened its entry qualification requirements making it difficult for many prospective students to enrol.

As it was gradually expanding, the school moved to another rented accommodation at No 2 Callaway Street in 1998. The site is owned by the Anglican Church. It was there for five years and thereafter moved to its present site, No 16 Eagle Street, in 2003. The school owns the present site.

KCC was approved as a high school by the Department of Education in the year 2003 under EMIS NO 200401390.

From humble beginnings, the school has grown from strength to strength. As a uniquely South African modern school, our school is now acknowledged as one of the leading schools in the province. The school currently accommodates 500 pupils.
